Graduation Information

Methodist College of Nursing holds a Graduation Ceremony in December for fall graduates and in May for spring graduates.  Our next graduation is scheduled for:

Spring 2011 Graduation Ceremony – May 19, 2012 at 10am.

 

APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION  

All students who are planning on graduating in December, 2011 must complete the Application for Graduation form and submit that to Student Services by Friday, February 3rd, 2011.

CAP & GOWN INFORMATION

Students participating in the Graduation Ceremony will need to go to http://www.jostens.com/ and make arrangements to reserve/purchase their graduation cap and gown.  You must order the cap and gown online between the dates of Monday, January 30th, 2012 and Friday, February 17th, 2012.  Students may also order graduation announcements through the Jostens website as well.

EVENT LOCATION & FACILITIES

The Fall 2011 graduation will be held May 19, 2012 at 10am at the Five Points Washington, located at 360 North Wilmor Road, Washington, Illinois.  The facility is located near Washington High School and features the Caterpillar Performing Arts Center that seats 1,000.  Directions for graduates and family members will be provided at a later date.  Methodist College will have staff present to direct people appropriately once they are inside the facility.

TICKET INFORMATION

At this time we are expecting a graduating class of 120 students.  All graduates should receive 7 tickets. Final ticket numbers and the tickets themselves will be available at the Student Services Front Desk approximately one week before the event.  We wait until the last possible moment to release tickets to ensure that we provide as many tickets as possible (based on mid-term grades and withdrawals).  Please remember that anyone over the age of 2 will need to have a ticket for entry into the ceremony.

CEREMONY INFORMATION

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ceremony for last minute information and directions.  Staff will be present to direct you to your dressing room.  Specific information on the ceremony itself will be made available to graduates when they receive their tickets. 

ALCOHOL POLICY

Graduates are advised that possession and consumption of alcohol at the Ceremony is strictly prohibited. Students may be asked to open their robes as they exit the lineup area for the processional. Any student failing to comply or found to be in possession of alcohol will not be allowed to participate.

GRADUATING CLASS PHOTOS

Color Classics Photo of Peoria will be at the college on the Thursday or Friday before Graduation to take a Class Photo.  This will be the only opportunity for a class photo before graduation.  For more information on the photo packages, please contact Color Classics directly.  We will post the specific date and time at a later date on this webpage.

 

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

What does my graduation fee cover?

The graduation fee covers costs associated with the ceremony itself and your nursing pin. It does not cover your cap and gown or your NCLEX fees.

 

What time should guests start to arrive for the Ceremony?

Guests and graduates should not arrive earlier than one hour prior to the ceremony start time. The doors to the Caterpillar Performing Arts Center will not open until one hour before the event itself.

 

What happens if there is bad weather?

Graduates and guests should listen to Peoria radio and television stations for cancellation information. If there is a cancellation due to inclement weather, Commencement will not be rescheduled.

 

Is there a limit on the amount of guests I can bring?

Yes, each student is limited to one guest per ticket.  Tickets are required for admission.

 

How long will the ceremony last?

Graduates and guests should plan on the ceremony lasting an estimated one and a half to two hours.

 

Is there a dress code for graduation?

Graduates are expected to dress appropriately for Graduation. Graduates who wear inappropriate clothing, or alter the appearance of their caps and gowns significantly will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. 

 

Am I required to participate in Ceremony to receive my diploma?

No. Diplomas and nursing pins will be mailed to everyone who has met degree requirements regardless of whether they chose to participate in the ceremony itself.
